5 Things to Do Once You Get Engaged

OH MY GOSH YOU’RE ENGAGED. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!
What a super amazing and important time for the two of you! I wanted to write a blog about what are the first five things you should do after getting engaged.
Don’t forget to take a breath and enjoy the proposal bliss before diving into the wedding planning. Unless planning and to-do lists are your cup of tea, then by all means, JUMP IN!

5 Things to Do Once You Get Engaged

Knowing what to do first after getting proposed to can feel overwhelming. So here are some initial steps to take!

1. Take a moment to breathe!
Planning can wait a little bit longer. Take time to really soak in the fact that you have found the person that you want to spend your life with. Once you’re ready tell your friends and family

2. Start thinking about what kind of wedding you want to have: This will help your planning process right away.
Do you want a big wedding that is an all out bash?
Do you want to elope on a mountainside with your dog as your witness?
Do you want a small intimate micro wedding without all of the craziness?
Do you want a destination wedding that everyone travels and makes a vacation out of it?

These questions will help you figure out which direction you would like to go towards and then you can start the next step.

3. Set a Date and Venue: Once you have figured out what kind of wedding you want to have, start looking at venues. Unless you already have a date that is near to you both I would suggest reaching out to venues, finding one that you love, and then selecting from which dates they have available. That way you don’t get your hopes up only for it to be crushed that your dream venue isn’t available.
I will say that popular venues can book up quickly, so it's best to start this process early as you can once you’re ready to plan.

4. Research and Hire Vendors: Once you have a date in mind start reaching out to your dream wedding vendors! One of the first ones to look for is a wedding planner and a photographer.

As a wedding photographer, I believe that hiring the right vendors is crucial to ensuring your wedding day goes smoothly. Some other vendors to reach out to right away would be a florist, caterer, videographer, DJ or a band, party buses, etc.
Look for professionals whose style and personality align with your vision for the day. These people will be with you throughout your wedding planning process, wedding day and even after the day has passed. Make sure you love them!

5. Schedule an Engagement Photoshoot: Engagement photos are a great way to announce your engagement and capture this special time in your lives. Plus, it's an excellent opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera with your photographer before the big day. Schedule your engagement photoshoot with your photographer, and don't forget to brainstorm some fun and meaningful locations or themes for the shoot.

Okay, I lied there are actually 6 steps!

6. Start Planning the Details: With the big things like the date, venue, and vendors sorted, it's time to start focusing on the smaller details that will make your wedding unique. This includes things like choosing your wedding party, designing invitations, selecting attire for you and your wedding party, and planning the ceremony and reception details. Keep a checklist or timeline to stay organized and ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

Remember, this is a special time in your life, so don't forget to enjoy the process of planning your wedding together! And lean on your vendors. They are there to help you in any capacity that they can!
